Three transgender women were the recent victims of armed robbery. That’s in addition to the murders of two other transgender women earlier this year. News 4’s Shomari Stone spoke with an advocate about the danger and how we can help.
D.C. police are searching for a suspect who has robbed transgender women in three separate robberies this month.
Just before 4 a.m. on Monday, July 22, police say a man got out of a car in the 900 block of 2nd Street NE and went up to the victim with a gun, demanding she give him her belongings. He drove off after she complied.
The suspect robbed another transgender woman about 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24 in the 600 block of K Street NE and a third victim a short time later in the 5500 block of Hunt Place NE. In both incidents, he got out of a car, took out a gun and stole their property, police said.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s to 30s and 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 11 inches in height. He has a medium build and was wearing brown or tan overalls and a black skull cap.
The victims saw him take off in a dark colored Jeep SUV.
Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspect or has information to call 202-727-9099.
