Robert Griffin III: “My Goal Is to Return Healthy for Week 1”

Because D.C. revolves around Robert Griffin III's surgically repaired right knee like the Earth does the sun, the Redskins quarterback has provided an update on his rehabilitation in a statement released by the team:

Got a brief update for everyone. My knee is getting better every day. The doctors say I’m ahead of schedule. My goal is to return healthy in week one but if I’m not ready by then I will wait until I am however long that is. My first NFL Season and my injury that ended it showed me a lot about the league, my team & myself. I know where my responsibility is within the dilemma that lead to me having surgery to repair my knee and all parties involved know their responsibility as well. I’m looking forward to playing the game we all love so much again and not behind at the negative. Thanks for the overwhelming level of support that I’ve received[.] Sic ‘em Bears and Hail to the Redskins!

This statement is essentially the same one that RGIII made to ESPN Tuesday except for at the end, when he playfully asks, "How is your bracket doing? Ha ha."

Well, my bracket's doing all right. Wisconsin and N.C. State really screwed me up, but 10 of my Sweet 16 picks are still alive. Thank you for asking.

Seriously though, it seems as if some believe that Griffin's comments -- particularly the part about responsibility -- are a thinly-veiled jab at Coach Mike Shanahan, who said last week that his quarterback "can’t take shots consistently" and must learn to protect himself.
