Two Prince George's County Police Officers Injured in Incidents Involving Cars

A Prince George's County Police officer struck by a car early Thursday was the second officer injured in incidents involving cars in eight hours.

When an officer approached a stolen car in a gas station parking lot in the 4400 block of Wheeler Road in Oxon Hill about 1:15 a.m., the driver accelerated and hit the officer, flipping him on to the hood, police said.

The vehicle, a gold 2008 Subaru Outback with license plates DT2586 continued toward D.C.

The officer, a Gold Medal of Valor recipient, was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.

Wednesday about 5:40 p.m., another officer became caught in a car's door during a traffic stop in the area of Alberta and Todd drives in District Heights. The driver sped off, pulling the officer along, and slammed into a tree about 100 yards away.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Danny Lee Harvell, fled on foot. Officers, K9 units and a police helicopter searched for him Wednesday.

The officer had surgery to repair an injury to his leg and is recovering.
