BALTIMORE -- Sen. Barbara Mikulski is going to have surgery on her ankle after breaking it in three places while walking down some steps.
Mikulski's office says the senator's injury happened Sunday evening when she was leaving church in Baltimore.
Rachel MacKnight, a spokeswoman for Mikulski, said the Maryland Democrat spent the night at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. MacKnight said surgery has not yet been scheduled.
In a statement, Mikulski said she's receiving excellent care.
