Authorities said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending

A young woman was killed early Sunday morning when a man driving a pickup truck the wrong way on the Beltway struck her head-on, Maryland State Police say.

The 22-year-old woman died at the scene of the crash on the Inner Loop of the Beltway near the exit for Annapolis Road in Lanham, police said.

Police said 26-year-old Miguel Angel Solis Gomez was driving a Ford F150 northbound in the southbound lanes of the Beltway and rammed into the woman's vehicle.

Authorities said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending.

Gomez was taken to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, a Prince George's County Fire spokesperson said.

The Inner Loop was shut down for several hours after the crash about 6 a.m. Lanes were reopened around 10 a.m.
