Catoctin Zoo's Family Grows With Fossa Pups

Remember King Julian in the Madagascar movies? Well, that was a fossa, and yes, they are adorable -- especially as babies.

Luckily, you will soon be able to see fossa pups in real life at Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Thurmont, Maryland.

A pair of fossa pups were born at Catoctin in June. When the babies were four days old, their eyes were still closed and they weighed just 80 grams. They were pulled from their first-time mother, who lost interest in their care.

The fossa now weigh over 500 grams and are starting to eat solid foods -- they will grow to be roughly the size of a small cougar.

The zoo is a panning to build a Madagascar section for the fossa, which are the country's largest carnivores and considered a highly endangered species.

You can visit Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets cost  $16.95 for adults and $11.50 for children ages 3 to 12.
