American U. Announces Commencement Speakers

American University has announced commencement speakers for its six schools.

The university said Tuesday that journalist Katie Couric will address School of Communication graduates on May 10. On the same day, Paul Diaz, the chief executive officer of Kindred Healthcare, will speak to the business school, and former U.S. undersecretary of state Paula J. Dobriansky, will speak to the School of International Service.

On May 11, journalist Gwen Ifill will speak at the School of Public Affairs. Domestic Policy Council director Cecilia Munoz will speak to arts and sciences graduates.

Finally, on May 18, Judy Smith will speak to law school graduates. Smith, the founder of the strategic crisis communications firm, is one of the executive producers of the ABC series "Scandal'' and the inspiration for the show's Olivia Pope.
