What killed a 6-year-old boy who underwent dental treatment at Virginia Commonwealth University? It’s a mystery that authorities are trying to solve.
Jacobi Hill suffered cardiac arrest Tuesday after being put under anesthesia. His mother, Crystal Lewis, said her son was getting several of his teeth capped at the school's dental clinic, according to the Associated Press.
Hill was pronounced dead a short time later at VCU Medical Center. The state medical examiner is conducting an autopsy.
The boy reportedly suffered from asthma but had no other known health problems, according to his mother. A pediatrician had examined him on Monday and determined he was healthy enough to undergo the procedure, according to Lewis.
The folks at VCU’s School of Dentistry appear to be stumped. Lewis said an administrator claims they don’t know what caused the boy’s death. A VCU spokesman has refused to confirm the death but does confirm there's an internal investigation under way, the AP reported.
