For the nerds. George Lucas is being honored at one of the balls, the Bytes & Books Inaugural Ball. The ball appears sold out but that doesn’t mean you all can’t camp out and catch a glimpse of the man who invented Jar Jar Binks.

The press release states:

“The nation’s leaders in technology and education will gather to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the new Congress at the Bytes & Books Inaugural Ball Jan. 20 at the Folger Shakespeare Library. The black-tie gala, coordinated by the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training (NCTET), will welcome members of Congress, administration officials, education leaders, corporate leaders, media, education stakeholders and other dignitaries.

The Bytes & Books Inaugural Ball seeks to raise the profile of the important role technology plays in education. The hosts of the ball are committed to improving education through more efficient uses of technology in schools and to better prepare the next generation for work and life.

Four leaders will be honored with NCTET’s annual Community Builder Award. These honorees include U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, George Lucas, filmmaker and founder of The George Lucas Educational Foundation, Barbara Stein of the National Education Association, and William (Bill) R. Thomas, director of Educational Technology, Southern Regional Education Board.”

Sen. Kennedy has not confirmed that he is attending. But Lucas has confirmed.
