Trey Mancini Receives Multiple Ovations in Orioles' Home Opener

Trey Mancini receives multiple ovations in O's home opener originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

In his first game at Camden Yards since the fall of 2019, Trey Mancini got plenty of love from Orioles fans throughout the afternoon in the home opener against the Boston Red Sox.

First, there were pre-game intros, where fans gave a touched Mancini an extended ovation after he was announced in the starting lineup. He waved multiple times before the PA announcer stepped in to announce the next player.

The limited capacity crowd wasn't satisfied, however. As Mancini walked up to the plate for his first at-bat of the game, O's fans cheered him on a little more.

Mancini was forced to miss the entire 2020 season due to a battle with colon cancer. The O's first baseman learned of his illness during spring training and began his treatment right away, ultimately working his way back into Baltimore's lineup in time for the 2021 campaign. Whether it's Orioles fans or his opponents welcoming him back, it's clear everyone is enjoying Mancini's return to the game.

Entering Thursday's home opener, Mancini was hitting .167 with two doubles in 24 plate appearances.
