Reports: Vancouver Canucks to Hire Ex-Capitals Coach Bruce Boudreau

Reports: Canucks to hire ex-Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Vancouver Canucks fired head coach Travis Green on Sunday and agreed to terms with former Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau to replace him, according to multiple reports.

Coming off a 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Canucks sit in last place of the Pacific Division with an 8-15-12 record on the season. Green coached Vancouver for five seasons, accruing a 125-132-32 regular-season record with one playoff appearance in 2020.

Boudreau, 66, returns to coaching after working as an analyst for NBC Sports Washington and NHL Network. The former center began his coaching career with the Capitals in 2007 and led them to four straight Metropolitan Division titles, though they never made it past the conference semifinals.

After Washington fired him 22 games into the 2011-12 season, Boudreau then made stops with the Anaheim Ducks (2011-16) and Minnesota Wild (2016-20). He has a career record of 567-302-115 across 14 seasons.

The Canucks’ hiring of Boudreau was first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
