The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler, the team announced Wednesday. The deal is for one year and $800,000.

A second-round pick of the Capitals in 2015, Siegenthaler has played in 90 career games over the last two seasons after making his debut in 2018. He stepped into a first-pair role with John Carlson in the playoffs of his rookie season after an injury to Michal Kempny, and carved out a role as part of the third pair in 2019-20, his first full NHL season.

In 64 games last season, the 23-year-old recorded 9 points, including his first two career goals. The Switzerland native was +11 during his time on the ice, and he led the Capitals in penalty kill minutes per game with 3:11.
