Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain has opted out of the remainder 2020 MLB season, the team announced on Saturday.

"Lorenzo Cain has informed us that he will not participate for the remainder of the 2020 season. We fully support Lorenzo's decision, and we will miss his talents on the field and leadership in the clubhouse," the Brewers said in a statement.
Milwaukee was scheduled to play the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend, but the first two games of the series have been postponed as the Cardinals deal with positive coronavirus tests in the organization.

St. Louis is not the only team feeling the impact of the pandemic, as an outbreak on the Miami Marlins led to the Marlins, Phillies, Blue Jays, Yankees, Nationals and Orioles all having games postponed. Though the Brewers have not reported any positive cases as of late, Cain may be taking a precautionary measure as the situation continues to worsen across the league.
Cain, a two-time All-Star, began the shortened season on the Brewers active roster and appeared in five games hitting .333. The veteran outfielder's absence will leave a hole in Milwaukee's lineup and defense.
