Gruden: Alex Smith Facing 6-8 Months Recovery

The trade for Alex Smith has Pat Collins wondering how many quarterbacks have had since the Redskins last went to the Super Bowl.

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said quarterback Alex Smith is looking at a recovery time of six to eight months after surgery on his broken leg, News4 partner NBC Sports Washington reports.

That would mean Smith, who turns 35 in May, could return by training camp.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a source said bone broke through the skin when Smith broke his tibia and fibula on a sack by the Houston Texans' Kareem Jackson.
