Ex-UMD Football Coach Ralph Friedgen Returns to Be Honored

Ralph Friedgen is one of the winningest coaches in University of Maryland football history, with seven bowl games, a national Coach of the Year award and an ACC Coach of the Year award, but after almost a decade of bringing the program into national prominence, “Fridge” was fired by a new athletic director. He’s only returned to campus a handful of times since then and says no one from the athletic department reached out to him for eight years, but he’s back in College Park thanks in part to new head coach Mike Locksley, being honored at the Terps game against Penn State Friday night. News4’s Johnny Holliday, the Voice of the Terrapins, caught up with Friedgen, and there was no holding back about the ups and downs of the long road back to campus.
