A New Hope for Pro Soccer in Prince George's

Prince George's County officials are optimistic again about getting an MLS soccer team and will continue to woo the D.C. United soccer team to move to the county, the Gazette reported.

This new hope comes as a site team officials were considering in Washington has an uncertain future following Clarke Enterprises' decision to pull out of the Poplar Point project..

"We think our chances just went up," said David C. Byrd, deputy chief administrative officer for governmental relations for Prince George's County, who has led efforts to attract the professional soccer team over the past year. "Of course, we felt pretty good to begin with."

The proposed Poplar Point development had retail, office and residential space as well as a proposed spot for a soccer stadium to get the United off its current home turf -- RFK Stadium.
