Proposal to Drop Concealed Carry Permit Fee Fails in Prince William County

A bid to wipe out the fee charged to residents who apply for concealed handgun permits in Prince William County, Virginia, failed Tuesday.

County Board Chairman Corey Stewart announced his proposal last month at a rally of gun rights supporters in Richmond. He told
activists he didn't think gun owners should have to pay a fee to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

After the idea was debated at Tuesday night's board meeting, it failed on a 4-4 vote.

Residents pay $50 when they seek a conceal carry permit. The fee raises about $70,000 each year for the county.
