Bad weather didn’t deter protesters from gathering near the site of the RNC, and the Maryland delegation spent much of the day together Monday.
The weather did not deter activists in Tampa Bay from protesting at the Republican National Convention Monday.
The opening day of the RNC was washed out before Monday, canceled in anticipation of Isaac. Strong winds and occasional downpours left about 4,000 delegates looking for something to do.
Protesters fought the rain to loudly send messages to Republican leaders that they’re not satisfied with the treatment of immigrants, the unemployed, students and women.
Delegates from Maryland used the downtime to fellowship at Gaspar’s Grotto, a popular restaurant in Ybor City. Food and drinks did not distract the group of almost 200 from the reason they’re in Florida.
“I think the convention more or less for most people, to include myself, is to really finally vet and hear and see the various candidates on the conservative side, where their positions are to ensure that we’re going down the right road,” Delegate Charles Lollar said.
