Hunters will have to keep their day of rest in Virginia.
A coalition of advocates, including the National Rifle Associaton and the Va. Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, had pushed for a change in the state's regulations to allow hunting on Sunday.
But that bill died in the Senate on Monday, the Virginian-Pilot reported.
"Why is it you can do everything else on a Sunday, including buying liquor, but you can't hunt?" Richmond hunter Charles Olin vented to the paper.
Horseback riders and landowners were joined by a block of hunters in opposition to the bill. Proponents of the rule change argued that an extra day of hunting would help control the state's rapidly growing deer population.
