Anne Leeds texted her husband Longport Commissioner James Leeds just minutes before her plane took off from Bedford, Mass. The plane never made it off the runway and crashed.
The wife of a Longport, New Jersey, commissioner was one of the seven people killed in a fiery plane crash in Massachusetts.
Longport Mayor Nick Russo told NBC10’s Ted Greenberg that Anne Leeds, the 74-year-old wife of James Leeds, died in the accident. Mr. Leeds later confirmed his wife's death.
Mr. Leeds said he received a text from Anne just four minutes before the crash saying they were about to take off.
The Gulfstream IV crashed as it was leaving Hanscom Field at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday for Atlantic City, New Jersey. There were no survivors.
The first victim identified in the crash was Lewis Katz, co-owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mrs. Leeds, a retired preschool teacher who was Katz's next-door neighbor and who also died in the crash, were among the 200 or so guests at the Concord, Massachusetts, home of Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin on Saturday afternoon, her representative said. The event was to support an education initiative for Goodwin's son Michael.
