Illinois State Police have responded to a semi-truck crash that left more than a dozen cattle roaming Interstate 80 near Joliet.
A crash involving multiple semi-trucks on Interstate 80 in suburban Will County led to road closures and left numerous cattle loose on the expressway, officials say.
According to police, the crash occurred in Joliet on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities say a cattle hauler hit another semi at the scene, leading to massive delays and road closures due to the damaged vehicles.
The driver of the cattle hauler was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police.

Several groups of cattle were observed walking along the expressway and grazing in nearby fields, with cowboys called to the scene to wrangle the animals. Several cattle also died in the crash.
After several hours, police were able to corral the cattle and the expressway has been cleaned of debris. Eastbound Interstate 80 closed between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue was closed for more than six hours before reopening just before 10 p.m.
