Prime Prep Academy, the charter school co-founded by Deion Sanders, faces closure.
The Texas Education Agency said in a letter Tuesday that it plans to revoke the school’s charter for improper fiscal management and failing to comply with the state education code.
Sanders met with several Prime Prep students and their parents Tuesday night on a football field behind the South Oak Cliff location.
When approached, the NFL Hall of Famer would not answer questions from NBC DFW regarding what message he was delivering to the parents.
Instead, Shannon White, a father of a rising freshman at the charter school, spoke with NBC DFW, saying Sanders told the crowd he plans to appeal the TEA's ruling and that parents should stand by the school.
"Every time they turn around, it's something in the news. It's something going on," White said about what the kids hear about their school. "And [the students] understand we're trying to change things and do the right things, so if it was to come back and it was to end tomorrow, yeah, it would be hurtful. But, again, I just don't think that's going to happen."
