Texting Prank Backfires as Teen Sends Message to Cop

An Arkansas teen sent the message to a random number

An Arkansas teen thought sending a random text message that she 'hid the body' would elicit a few laughs. The message sparked a police investigation instead, WBOY-TV in Clarksburg reported.

The 15-year from northwest Arkansas had blind texted “I hid the body … Now what?” to a police detective.

“Just in the 479 area code, we probably got half a million phone numbers and she just randomly picks the phone number of a Rogers Police Detective,” Rogers Police Officer Keith Foster told CBS affiliate 5 News.

The teen got the idea for the prank from a posting on social media photo site Pinterest.

Police used an emergency phone trace to track her cellphone number.

“Not knowing if the text was a prank or a legitimate text, detective began an investigation into the source of the message,“ a news release obtained by Arkansas Online stated.

Police learned the text was a prank after questioning the teen and her father, and released her with a warning, according to reports.
