Death Toll Rises to 5 After Shooting Death of Venezuelan Beauty Queen Genesis Carmona Amid Protests

Genesis Carmona died Wednesday in Valencia from a gunshot wound to the head.

The death toll in Venezuela has reached five after officials say a 22-year-old beauty queen was shot and killed amid protests. Meanwhile, South Floridians are holding vigils to pray for an end to the conflict. NBC 6’s Wilalrd Shepard reports.

A Venezuelan mayor says a 22-year-old beauty queen has died after being shot in an anti-government protest.

Mayor Enzo Scrano says Genesis Carmona died Wednesday in Valencia from a head wound. Scrano is an opposition mayor in one of the districts that make up the city of Valencia.

Carmona was Miss Tourism 2013 for the state of Carabobo.

She was struck by a bullet Tuesday when unknown gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on opposition protesters.

She is the fifth death during protests in the past week.
