Yes, Maryland, Your Commute Is as Bad as You Think

Maryland residents have the longest commute in the country, according to the Census Bureau.

A new report found the average Maryland commute takes 32 minutes.

That may be because more people work outside of the county where they live than anywhere except Virginia.

About 51 percent of people in Virginia work outside the county where they live, compared to 47 percent of Maryland residents. Only New Jersey, which has residents who commute to New York City and Philadelphia, comes close.

The quickest commutes are in Montana, with an average of 14 minutes.
