Woodbridge Man Killed in Fauquier County Plane Crash

Authorities are investigating a fatal plane crash in Fauquier County.

The Virginia State Police says the single-engine, fixed wing Titan Tornado II crashed around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Eyewitness accounts reported by police say the plane appeared to be experiencing engine trouble before it crashed.

Emergency responders located the remote crash site thanks to local residents providing witness accounts and four-wheel drive vehicles.

Officials say the pilot, 33-year-old Benjamin J. Hummel of Woodbridge, died at the scene. He was the only person on the plane and no one on the ground was injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by state police, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
