Friend of Man Who Overdosed Gets 4 Years in Prison for Failing to Help

A woman who failed to help her friend of 10 years when he overdosed on heroin was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison. Musician Witt Black, 32, died in September after Heather Timbers introduced him to the drug in a hotel room in Loudoun County. Prosecutors said the sentence sends a message to people who “spread the disease” of drug addiction. Timbers’ lawyer said the sentence fails to acknowledge that she is an addict.
