WASHINGTON -- A woman died and a teenager was critically injured in a rowhouse fire Wednesday morning in northwest Washington.
D.C. Fire Department spokesman Alan Etter said firefighters were called to the blaze in the 2200 block of North Capitol Street about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. Etter said a woman was found dead in the back of the house.
He said firefighters removed a 14-year-old boy from the home and performed CPR on him. The teen was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition.
An elderly man who got out of the home also was injured, but his injuries are non-life-threatening.
Etter said about 110 firefighters battled the blaze, which caused major damage to the home. The cause is under investigation.
