Water Main Bursts on Connecticut Avenue NW

A 12-inch water main ruptured on Connecticut Avenue near Van Ness Street NW. DC Water says it may take until midnight to finish repairs and fully restore water at the University of the District of Columbia’s campus.

A busy section of Connecticut Avenue was flooded with water in Northwest D.C. Saturday afternoon when a 12-inch water main broke near the Van Ness Street intersection.

DC Water said emergency crews are at the scene near the University of the District of Columbia campus.

At 4:39 p.m., DC Water tweeted that full restoration of water services should take 8-10 hours.

Currently, the campus and several businesses on Connecticut Avenue are without water.

"Unfortunately, when temperatures drop, our aging infrastructure is prone to water main breaks," DC Water said in a tweet about the breakage.

The break is unrelated to another water main break that has put parts of Northwest D.C. and Arlington, Virginia, under a boil water advisory this weekend.
