Virginia Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

Aaron X. Wittman was 28 years old.

The Department of Defense confirmed Friday that a soldier from Virginia died while serving in Afghanistan.
 
Sgt. Aaron X. Wittman was on mounted patrol in the Khogyani District of Nangarhar Province with his unit  Thursday when they were attacked by small arms fire.
 
Wittman was from Chester, about 20 minutes south of Richmond.
 
He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, stationed out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.
