The University of Mary Washington cancelled Monday afternoon and evening classes after receiving a threat.
Posts to an official Twitter account of the Fredericksburg, Virginia, school said students were advised to shelter in place. The university received a threat saying someone "would be coming to campus with a firearm."
Classes and events for the afternoon and evening were canceled "out of an abundance of caution," the posts at about 2 p.m. said.
The shelter-in-place order had been lifted by about 3 p.m. A suspect faces criminal charges.
There "was never a credible threat" to the campus, the school said.
