Police for looking for a third suspect involved in a shooting near Dunbar High School in Northwest D.C. News4’s Shomari Stone spoke to a father who says he’s concerned his children could be “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Two men were shot in northwest D.C. Thursday afternoon, police said.
The shooting in the 400 block of N Street NW was near Dunbar High School and Fire Station 6.
Several people were in the area when shots were fired before 5 p.m., including students and parents holding young children, News4's Shomari Stone reports. They ran for cover in a parking lot as at least 53 shots were fired.
“There’s a bunch of young kids out here, and that’s type of thing that we’ve got to put an end to in the District is having these folks who think that they can discharge these illegal firearms in our community,” Police Chief Pete Newsham said. “One of the great things about walking through here is that the folks out here are more than willing to help. They’re sick and tired of this kind of thing happening in their community as well.”
Suspects fled in a gray Saturn and crashed three blocks away by the Masjid Muhammad Mosque. Three people ran from the car.
Police have two suspects in custody. They are looking for the third person.
Both men were conscious and breathing. One is expected to survive, but the other is surgery in at least critical condition, police said.
