Two Men in Critical Condition After Adams Morgan Bar Brawl

One man was apparently a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene when 37-year-old James Woods acted out at Rendezvous Lounge

News4’s Jackie Bensen has the latest details in a Friday morning brawl that left two men critically injured.

Two men are in critical condition -- including one who is facing an assault charge -- following an altercation at an Adams Morgan bar.

Police say 37-year-old James Woods allegedly acted out at Rendezvous Lounge, striking a bartender in the head with a glass around 2 a.m. At that point, 45-year-old Rockwell Flint, and other patrons, intervened in an attempt to get Woods out of the bar, who started swinging a bar stool at the group.

A police report says Flint and Woods grappled at the top of the stairs, when both men fell. Flint, a member of a local band and substitute teacher, was rushed to the hospital with a broken neck, a fractured skull and a brain hemorrhage. Both men are listed in critical condition.

Woods has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier decided to shut down the bar, which is located in the 2200 block of 18th Street NW, for 96 hours.

The incident comes about three weeks after a stabbing at another Adams Morgan night spot. One of the bar’s security guards was arrested and charged in that Aug. 10 incident. The bar has now closed for good, The Washington Post reported.
