Southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed Thursday afternoon after a man was struck and killed near Quantico, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.
A man parked a 2007 Ford Focus on the right shoulder near mile marker 146, Virginia State Police said. According to witnesses, the man stepped out of the car directly into the path of a tractor-trailer, which was not able to avoid hitting him.
The man died at the scene.
Southbound traffic was detoured off I-95 at Exit 148. The closed lanes reopened after 3 p.m., according to VDOT.
Motorists were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes if possible.
