Two D.C. Fire Employees Accused of Paying for Gas With Taxpayer-Funded Credit Cards

News4’s Scott MacFarlane has the story of two D.C. firefighters accused of using government credit cards to buy more than $14,000 of gas for their personal cars.

A pair of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services employees have been arrested for allegedly swiping their taxpayer-funded government travel cards to purchase thousands of dollars in gasoline for their personal cars.

In one case, a female fire official bought about $11,000 in gasoline over a three year period, investigators said, including at a pair of gas stations on Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

In a second case, a male fire employee used his government travel card to buy about $2,600 in gasoline for his personal Lexus, investigators told the I-Team. The second employee also told government investigators he’d sell some of the gasoline he purchased with his government card, using the cash to help pay a home mortgage.

Both will be prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

D.C. Fire has not yet responded to requests for comment on the employee statuses of the two workers.
