Highway Lane Closures in NoVa Canceled for Thanksgiving

VDOT lifting lane restrictions for Thanksgiving.

Virginia transportation officials will help smooth the holiday travel season by lifting highway lane closures during peak Thanksgiving travel times.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will suspend lane closures from noon Wednesday to noon Monday, Nov. 28.

VDOT says the days before and after Thanksgiving traditionally have the greatest number of highway travelers. The department also has created detailed online maps showing peak travel routes from previous holidays.

Families planning on hitting the road for the holiday are advised to consult VDOT's congestion map here, and the Virginia 511 traffic info site.
