A mother says she’s grateful and amazed after her baby boy survived being shot twice. News4’s Meagan Fitzgerald reports the latest on the police investigation.
The mom of a 1-year-old boy who was shot after getting caught in the crossfire of a brazen shooting in Northeast D.C. says she's amazed and grateful he has survived and he's already making great strides in his recovery.
Shardai White calls her son Jeremiah her "miracle baby."
On Monday, Jeremiah was sitting in his stroller as his dad was walking him inside for the night, when three men started arguing and opened fire steps away from their home in the 1300 block of I Street NE. Jeremiah was shot.
"The doctors found one bullet and fragments of another. Basically, he has three holes and he got shot twice," White said.
Jeremiah had emergency surgery to remove the bullets and was able to leave the hospital on Tuesday. Just two days after the shooting, he was back to acting like a typical 1-year-old.
"I don't know how he recovered so quickly I thank God for it though," White said.
Police Chief Peter Newsham released a video Thursday of some persons of interest in the case.
"It was very unfortunate that we had a little boy struck, but it could have been a lot worse," Newsham said following the shooting.
Police said they are close to making three arrests.

"We've made significant progress in the case and we anticipate we'll be able to bring the folks responsible into custody," Newsham said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the boy's family with medical expenses.
"My son is full of spirit," she said. "Honestly, I don't know what I would be able to do without my baby."
