Shootout Leaves Bullet Holes in Quiet Va. Subdivision

Several homes and vehicles were damaged after an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles along Swans Creek Lane in Dumfries, Virginia.

Prince William County Police are investigating a shootout that occurred in the middle of the afternoon and left several houses riddled with bullets.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, police went to the 17900 block of Swans Creek Lane in Dumfries after multiple callers reported a gold Saab and a red Kia sped down the street while officers exchanged gunfire.

While no one was hurt, one vehicle and five houses were struck. One man said a bullet went straight over his head and through his garage. Officers found numerous shell casings along the road.

With the help of a tip, investigators were able to locate the gold Saab a few miles away and identify one of the passengers in the vehicle as 19-year-old Deante Gaines of Stafford, police said. Witnesses claim they saw Gaines firing a gun.

Police obtained multiple warrants for his arrest on counts including possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officers took him into custody Monday outside a home in D.C.

As the investigation is ongoing, Prince William County detectives continue to search for the other car involved and identify other suspects.
