2 Injured in Silver Spring Condo Fire; 2 Pets Killed

Two people were injured and two pets died when a condo building in Silver Spring, Maryland, caught fire early Thursday morning.

The fire started at the Grand Bel Manor Condominiums on Bel Pre Road at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire in a low-level apartment, fire officials say.

Three buildings were damaged by the flames, displacing more than 100 people.

A resident and a firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer said. Piringer said several people and pets were rescued from the fire, but a dog and a cat did not survive.

Fire officials believe the fire was electrical in nature.
