D.C. Mayor-elect Vincent Gray on Thursday was expected to nominate Kaya Henderson, the current interim D.C. Schools chancellor, to fill the job officially.
But it turns out that's not the case.
A high-level source said Henderson had not been told to be at the news conference, which was scheduled for 11 a.m.
"While Mayor-elect Gray and Ms. Henderson’s shared dedication to doing what’s best for the students of DCPS will no doubt lead to conversations around who can best lead the district long-term, they’ve not yet discussed the permanent chancellor position," according to a statement from Henderson's office. "In partnership with the Mayor-elect, Ms. Henderson remains committed to continuing the important work of reforming DC public schools."
Henderson took over for Michelle Rhee when she left at the end of October.
According to a press release, Gray will be naming seven more advisers and directors in his administration at his Thursday news conference.
