School Security Guard Had Sexual Relationship With 14-Year-Old Student: Police

A Maryland middle school security guard had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student, according to Montgomery County Police.

On May 4, an eighth-grader at Col. E. Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring told detectives she gave 21-year-old Mike Anthony Lievano her phone number and exchanged text messages with him. She said she started dating him March 29, police said, and they had sex at least four times at her home and once at his home. She told police she would sneak Lievano into her apartment at night.

On May 5, detectives interviewed Lievano, who confessed to having sex with the girl twice, police said. He told police the last time the girl’s mother caught him in the girl’s bedroom.

Police arrested Lievano turned himself in Sunday night on charges of sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree sex offense and a fourth-degree sex offense. He is being held on $10,000 bond.

The school placed Lievano on leave after learning about the alleged inappropriate relationship.

Lievano previously worked part-time security at Rockville High School from September 2015 to February 2016 and then worked in private security until Col. E. Brooke Lee hired him in February, according to a letter from Principal Kimberly Hayden Williams to the school community.

“The charges are a violation of the core values of our school system,” Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith said in a letter to the school district community. “We hold our staff to the highest standards and we will not tolerate this type of behavior.”

Lievano passed a background check, a school system spokesman said.

Another school security employee in the county was arrested again earlier this month for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student after he’d been ordered to stay away from her after a previous arrest. Mark Yantsos, 57, was the security team leader at Richard Montgomery High School when he was first accused of having inappropriate contact with her in March. He is on unpaid leave.
