Neighbors Call for ‘Food Not Booze' at Tiny DC Safeway

The Safeway grocery store at 17th and Corcoran streets NW is small, and some neighbors say the proposed addition of beer and wine to the store will cut into the space for groceries. Safeway says alcohol would make up only 4 percent of the total inventory. Neighborhood commissioner Nick Delledonne said even that is too much. “We can’t go to the liquor store to pick up celery and carrots,” he said. News4’s Tom Sherwood reports.
