Rush Hour Escalator Outage at Bethesda Metro Sparks Anger

Meeting held Tuesday evening

The escalators at the Bethesda Metro Station suddenly broke down during the evening rush hour. Fed up passengers vented their anger at Metro tonight. Jackie Bensen has the story.

Broken escalators on Metro are nothing new, but a big outage in the middle of rush hour may have been the last straw.

At 6:25 p.m. Tuesday night, two of the three escalators at Bethesda Metro Station went down, forcing commuters to climb the more than 250 vertical feet to the surface.

Metro quickly convened a meeting in Bethesda.

Frustrated commuters and business leaders packed the room and told Metro officials they can't wait much longer for a fix.
