Rome's Trevi Fountain Holds Riches in Loose Change

If you're enchanted by Rome and want to come back, legend has it you'll get your wish if you throw a coin backward into the Trevi Fountain, using your right arm over your left shoulder.

Well that appears to be paying off for the fountain, NBC News reports, where nearly $1.5 million in change was thrown last year, according to the Italian charity that receives all coins, and anything else, chucked into its waters.

"The [city] council hands over to us bags full of coins thrown into the fountain," said Alberto Colajacomo, spokesman for Catholic nonprofit Caritas.

The money gets reinvested into charitable initiatives.
