Roads are closed due to police investigating a backpack left at an apparent bank robbery. News4’s Jackie Bensen reports.
Part of Route 50 in Northern Virginia was closed during the Tuesday evening rush hour after a man announced a bank robbery and then left behind a bag, officials say.
Route 50 westbound at Patrick Henry Drive and Route 50 eastbound at the ramp from Route 7 to Route 50 were closed. Exit ramps from the Home Depot store also were closed.
The roads in Falls Church, Virginia, were closed earlier in the evening, reopened, closed once again and reopened once again.
The Fairfax Police Department received a call shortly before 3:30 p.m. about a robbery at the TD Bank at 6198 Arlington Blvd.
A man entered the back of the bank, left a note and fled -- leaving his backpack at the front door, police said.
The area was closed off as police investigated the bag. A bomb squad was using a robot to determine if the bag is dangerous.
