Residents Reclaim History of Batestown on Juneteenth
Sisters Thelma and Clara Bates are the oldest living residents of the town bearing their family name. On Juneteenth, they and their community reclaimed the history of the town that during the Civil War through emancipation was an oasis for African Americans.
