Racist Flyers Found Posted in Alexandria

Residents of Alexandria, Virginia, woke up Saturday morning to find racist flyers hung on poles and placed on car windows.

Flyers with messages including "Stop the blacks" and "You're losing your country, white man" were found in the Del Ray neighborhood.

Resident Reba Winstead, a Girl Scout troop leader, posted photos of the flyers on social media.

“I wanted to make sure that the word got out that this is creeping into our inclusive community, so we can stand up against it," she said. "Because that's not what Del Ray stands for."

The City of Alexandria condemns the flyers and whoever posted them, Mayor Allison Silberberg said.

“We denounce hate speech and hate crimes and discrimination in all forms," she said.

Alexandria police are investigating.

Several of the flyers appear on a white supremacist website that endorses "American fascism."

The flyers were spotted a day after a noose was found hanging in a tree near a museum on the National Mall and a man spewing hate speech at women who appeared to be Muslim killed two people in Portland.

A week earlier, police say a white college student who was part of a Facebook group called Alt-Reich Nation fatally stabbed a black college student on the University of Maryland campus.
