A commission in Loudoun County wants to spray insecticides on the grounds of local parks to reduce the spread of Lyme disease.
Loudoun County leads Virginia in cases of Lyme disease, accounting for about 25 percent of the state's total.
In a meeting Wednesday night, the Loudoun Lyme Commission voted to recommend the spraying. The board of supervisors will consider the recommendation Monday.
Some county residents are concerned about the health risks of spraying insecticide.
Dr. Samuel Shor, who heads the commission, said the risk from spraying the parks where children play and near the schools in which they learn is low.
