Poll: D.C. Residents Most Concerned About Crime

For the first time in a decade, crime is the number one concern for residents in the District. A Washington Post poll puts public safety fears ahead of the economy and education. News4’s Chris Gordon reports on what D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser plans to do to ease fears.

A new Washington Post poll shows most people do not like how D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is handing crime.

Crime is residents’ No. 1 concern in the city. The spike in homicides has one in four of those polled saying they don’t feel too safe. And crime has increased in every section of the city.

Bowser believes her plan to give police officers body cameras and other tools will bring down crime numbers.

“We increased our investment in our crime lab,” she said. “We also put more community resources on the street as well, and we’ve been focused on jobs.”
