Robber Drives Off With 7-Eleven's Cell Phone Display: PD

It’s not uncommon to hear of a convenience shop being targeted by thieves, but it’s how the suspect acted and what he took that has police in Prince George’s Co. scratching their heads.

Police are looking for a man who robbed a Mount Rainier convenience store May 13, and got away with an entire cell phone display.

According to Prince George's County Police, an armed suspect walked into a 7-Eleven store on Chillum Road around 3:45 a.m. He tried -- and failed -- to prop the door open with a mat and a rug.

He then approached the cashier and implied he had a weapon. Police say the suspect took cash from the register and took several packs of cigarettes.

Then, he took an entire kisok of cell phone accessories. The man lifted the entire display, took it out of the store and drove away in his mini-van. He had left the trunk door open.

Lieutenant Bill Alexander, who has been on the force for 17 years, said this was a unique case.

"I've never seen a robbery like this," he said. "It was a very unusual set of circumstances."
